Your next great coaching idea

Coach looks for an advantage.

An edge.

Maybe it’s a player.

A play.

A workout.

Or, hey….what about an idea.

Careful if it’s a new idea

When an idea is NEW—especially radically new—get ready!

For what?

The phases of acceptance to “new.”

They can be difficult.

Do you have time for your great coaching idea?

You, Coach, have a brainstorm—something a little crazy.

You are convinced the risk is well worth the reward.

Heads up, because the reaction to your idea will typically be:

  • First, it will be ridiculed (“What, are you crazy!”)
  • Then, it will be opposed (“There ain’t no way that’ll work!”)
  • Finally, it will accepted (“I knew that was a great idea!”)

And the crazier the idea, the stronger those reactions.

It isn’t you

None of those phases are because it’s YOU.

It’s how humans process NEW.

Something to keep in mind the next time you excitedly drive to the office/practice/locker room with your next great coaching idea.
